Battles 2.0 - new ways to fight

Try remembering the last time you fought with someone; and then try to recall the reason why the quarrel began. Recently, I had a tiff with my elder brother over some stationery item that he took without asking me. At that moment it seemed like a very important matter to fight about but now that I come to think of it, I feel the reason was so stupid. Wherever you see you will surely find arguments, fights, and even big misunderstandings that can lead to killings and deaths. From young children fighting over toys to even big emperors, everyone fought for just one mere reason – that is satisfaction of one’s greed. Not just greed of money or objects but the greed to defeat someone. When I first read about the Battle of Plassey, World War 1, Samrat Ashoka and many other history battle, I was unable to point out the exact reason for these fights to take place, for all this bloodshed. Even now I am in search for the answer. So, I asked this question to my dad. Being a 9-10-year-old child,

When Black doesn't haunt!

If after reading the title you thought that this article was related to Halloween or ghosts, then you would perhaps be mistaken. In fact, this is just an incident that unveiled the irony of notions around black and made me realize the power of mistakes. There was a competition for which registration had to be done through Microsoft forms. While filling the form they asked for a particular social media ID that I didn’t have. So, I just filled it up with random letters to see what was on the next page. And then by mistake I ended up submitting the form that carried all my wrong information. I really wanted to participate in that competition but it allowed only one response per person. I felt very guilty for such a stupid mistake and started wondering how such a mistake could be done? Turns out that mistakes are the only thing other than your achievements that help you grow. Sometimes we must lose in order to gain because some lessons are best learnt through pain. So at that time I was no

Ctrl + Alt+ Del

Last week, I had my speaking skills assessment. My English teacher asked me “ how would you feel if one day all the books disappeared from the world ?” I was a bit confused but then I replied “Mam, it would be a terrible moment.” Afterwards I wondered why I said that, why I felt terrible for such a situation, why a sensation of fear occurred inside me? I started to replace ‘books’ with other things I love – paints, diaries, fountain pens, music and I must say it was the worst day of my life. I had a disturbed night, full of fear, nightmares and visions of everything I love going ‘poof’! But after my mind got stable, a question came to my mind- why do we fear things? All of us fear something- maybe being abandoned, losing faith or trust, or failing. What we call nightmares are basically what our brain thinks that scares us most. This fear is our weakness. There are some moments when we wish to be fearless but “ being fearless isn't the point. That's impossible, it’s learning to

Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder

It was a beautiful evening; the colour of the sky was mesmerising. A child decided to go for a walk to the park. He was on his way when he saw a group of girls deciding who would be leading their team in the interschool quiz competition to be held the next day. The five friends who he saw, turned from friends to enemies just because of an argument. The child started walking ahead thinking, how a disagreement co uld turn love into hate. He reached the park where some boys were playing a game; and one boy pushed the other. The boy who pushed perhaps, would have known that it was wrong to hurt others, yet he did it for his own entertainment. The child observed this scene and was shocked. He felt an urge to help the boy who had been hurt. Soon, a few people came and provided first aid to the injured boy. The child on the stroll was tired by then, and proceeded to sit at the bench. A man was already sitting there with his face in his hands and probably, tears in his eyes.

A Rainbow in humans

A week ago, everyone was ecstatic in Delhi-NCR because of a rare sight. Social media was filled with photos of a rainbow that appeared after heavy rainfall and a storm. It motivated  people to continue and endure through the dark times. The seven colours had together formed a perfect curve and an amazing view that had brought smiles to everyone’s face! These colours in a way represent an emotion or characteristic of humans. Violet – a symbol of imagination and dreams; Indigo - a symbol of devotion and wisdom; Blue - a sign of confidence and stability; Green – representing harmony and peace; Yellow - signifies happiness and positivity; Orange - reflects creativity and enthusiasm whereas Red is the colour of sacrifice and love. These characteristics together sound very moral and so is the person who holds them. A person who possesses all these qualities is like a rainbow.  He will always be pleased with himself, succeed in making others happy, and will be a rare pe

Seeing Life through a Pizza

I am sure that most of us have either eaten or seen a pizza.  Try imagining one! A pizza base - loaded with cheese inside and over it; the toppings - red tomatoes, green capsicum, white onions, black olives, green jalapeno, golden corns and red paprika and so on.  All these different coloured and different flavoured toppings are spread on top of the same cheese without discrimination again their colour or taste. Just like this, all people of the world in spite of their colour or characteristics are nowadays immersed in the risk of same enemy - Coronavirus. The pizza base is the world with corona (just like cheese) spread all over and we, the diverse people of the world, are the various multi-coloured and multi-flavoured toppings.  This little virus has caused over 315 thousand deaths all over the world. It is currently the boss of the world. All people fear one name that is CORONA. It is true that it is a disaster but looking from a positive perspective, it h

A line of diyas

During Diwali season, a girl and her family had bought different types of sweets. All of them were wearing brand new clothes and decorating their house. They had decorated the entrance to their house with rangolis and flowers. When it was time to light the diyas (earthen lamps) and candles, the girl’s mother told her to light a match and light the candles. She was a little girl and so she did not know how to light a match; but she wanted to keep her mother happy and thus keeping the festive spirit in her mind she could not refuse this task. Then she ran towards the balcony and quickly assembled the diyas in a line and prayed to god saying “Oh God, I am really sorry that I do not know how to light the diyas for your welcome. These are five diyas – One is for my grandmother; I pray that you give her the best living experience for her remaining years for life. The second one is for my grandfather; I pray that he too enjoys his remaining years in the company of such a grea

Rubik's cube - a reality check

I have been solving Rubik’s cube from a few months now. Usually while solving it, I take it to be just a colourful cube but today was different ………………. I have two cubes, one a little old and cheap one; and the other a bit new and expensive. The first cube started creaking after some weeks; it was really smooth at the beginning but slowly it turned rough and started making funny noises. My first cube was the cheaper one but I was really happy to have it. The other cube is still in the same condition till now. It is as smooth as cream and makes no noise or disturbance. Gradually I started having more interest in solving the expensive one. Now it took over the place of my first cube. And now I rarely wish to solve the old one. I keep my new cube in a special drawer whereas the other one lies wherever it finds a place.  Today these cubes taught me the reality of life! In reality, the common people want to express their voice, thoughts and feelings, but what is heard by t
